Jim McFadden is a CFA charterholder whose career spans the full arc of institutional equity markets — from ranked sell-side analyst to managing director and portfolio manager running proprietary and long-short equity capital.
He began covering electric utilities at Goldman Sachs and Bear Stearns, where he earned recognition as an Institutional Investor–ranked analyst. He went on to manage long-short equity portfolios at Amaranth Advisors and led a North American equity proprietary trading desk as a Managing Director at J.P. Morgan. More recently, Jim has focused on investment strategy and research — consulting for hedge funds and asset managers, and writing for retail-investor-focused publications.
